CONSENT RECEIVED FOR PEACHGROVE ROAD
4 July 2014: Countdown is pleased to confirm it has received Council consent to build a $23 million supermarket in Hamilton East that will create up to 100 new jobs and engage dozens of local construction workers and building contractors.
Countdown’s General Manager for Property, Adrian Walker, says Hamilton East is a community the company is keen to employ and invest in.
“We're looking forward to putting together a local team to bring the great value, range, quality and service that Countdown is known for across the country, and add to our great team of 1160 across the wider Waikato region.
“As one of New Zealand’s largest employers, we’re proud to offer flexible working hours for young people and part time workers, as well as fostering career development and training,” says Adrian.
Adrian says the company is committed to building a supermarket that will fit in with the community, and has put together a design that carefully acknowledges the area’s history, including a bush walking area with native trees, which will be open to the public at the rear.
The supermarket has been designed in Countdown’s latest new-generation format and would be approximately 4000m2 standalone, and include 192 car parks and 14 cycle parks.
While the timeframe hasn't been finalised, the company is hoping to be onsite later this year. The resource consent is subject to any appeals.
