COUNTDOWN AND KAIVOLUTION TEAM UP IN HAMILTON
10 March 2016: Countdown’s Food Rescue programme is teaming up with Hamilton food rescue charity, Kaivolution. This latest partnership will focus on the collection of fresh food in Hamilton, to help Kiwis in need.
Kaivolution, a not for profit food rescue group based in the Waikato, began collecting produce and bakery items from Countdown Claudelands and Hamilton in February this year. The group is dedicated to supporting healthy environments and thriving communities.
Kaivolution Manager, Ruth Seabright, says they are incredibly grateful for the food they receive which helps the charities they work with to support those in need.
“The food we receive from Countdown is such a blessing to the charity groups that we work with, enabling them to support more families who often struggle to provide enough food.
“Kaivolution is only 16 months old and has already rescued more than 82 tonnes of food. It's a great example of the incredible things that can happen when the business and community sectors work together for society and for the environment,” Ms Seabright says.
Countdown Managing Director, Dave Chambers, says “it’s great to see our Food Rescue Programme extending with the addition of Kaivolution in Hamilton.”
“As part of our commitment to being active locally, our policy is to donate food that is still fit for consumption, wherever possible, to community charity partners such as Kaivolution to help out the local community. In the last year alone, we provided $3.5 million worth of food throughout New Zealand.”
Kaivolution will slowly extend their collections to include the other six Countdown stores around Hamilton over the coming months.
Kaivolution joins Countdown’s Food Rescue charity partners throughout New Zealand, including The Salvation Army, FairFood, 0800 HUNGRY, Just Zilch, FoodShare, Kaibosh, Good Neighbour, and KiwiHarvest.
