4 August 2014: Countdown, official partner of the New Zealand Olympic Committee, is proud to welcome home the 232 New Zealand athletes who took part in the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow this year, collectively bringing home 45 medals.

As athletes start to make their way home from Glasgow after one of the most successful Commonwealth Games to date for New Zealand, Countdown congratulates all New Zealand athletes on their achievements.

Countdown’s Managing Director Dave Chambers says Countdown is excited to support the New Zealand Olympic Committee as it now looks to getting ready for the Olympic Games.

“Countdown has been proud to be an official partner of the New Zealand Commonwealth Games team. The achievements in Glasgow are great for growing sport in our communities, which is one of the reasons it’s important to us to partner with the New Zealand Olympic Committee.

“Our sponsorship also means we’ve been able to connect the Commonwealth Games with communities around New Zealand. We had hundreds of messages of support from Kiwis on the New Zealand flags we had in 10 Countdown stores around the country that we sent on to the team in Glasgow,” says Chambers.
